Blu-ray Collection Aimless Bullet (1961) 감독: Yu Hyun-mok 제작 연도: 2016
Aimless Bullet (1961) is considered to be a masterpiece of Korean movies, but the original film negative is long lost, and only a version with English subtitles from the seventh San Francisco Film Festival remains. For a long time, it was not possible to enjoy a complete version of the movie due to stains and the English subtitles that covered half of the image. The Korean Film Archive, with skills accumulated over the past 7 years from working on the restoration of 15 classic films, restored Aimless Bullet to an almost original quality using VFX human resources and released it as a Blu-ray disc.
Aimless Bullet which is a major work of director Yoo Hyeon-mok during the Korean realism movie era, shows an injured Korean society by portraying a defector family. The oldest son, Chul-ho, did not have any escape from the society of the time, and his poor family, whose members consist of an old mother who always yells “Let’s go, let’s go,” a pregnant but undernourished wife, an unemployed veteran brother, and a younger sister who became a prostitute for American soldiers. When he got on a taxi bleeding after pulling out two wisdom teeth and was asked where he was going to, he only yelled “Let’s go” just like his old mother. Aimless Bullet, which received favorable reviews as one of the top Korean realism movies, was filmed with various techniques, for example, the main character Chul-ho’s frustration and the chaotic situation of Korean society at the time were visualized by Yoo’s outstanding directing skills, montages, and a mise-en-scene influenced by expressionism and Hollywood-style gangster customs. This revised Blu-ray version contains an audio guide in which the best movie critics in Korea, Jung Seong-il and Heo Mun-yeong, who explain why this movie is still outstanding by using a detailed text analysis and criticism. There is also a pamphlet that includes reviews by movie critics Kim Jong-won and Kim Gyeong-uk on director Yoo Hyeon-mok’s Aimless Bullet to help the viewer understand the movie better, and also an essay by Sato Tadao, a renowned Japanese movie critic who wrote in tribute to the latest Blu-ray release of the film.<aimless bullet=""></aimless> |
